Around the clubs: winners, runners-up and pennant wins across Queensland

It has been a full fortnight of competition on Queensland's lawns. Clubs have hosted their own tournaments, pennant teams have travelled for tight matches, and several members have done well away from home. Here is a round-up of who has been winning.

Tournament titles

Andrew Cole and Graham Young took out the Open Doubles at McIlwraith, coming through a close final against Lesley Stabler and Charles Mitchell. Penny Jackson refereed the final. The club was just as pleased with the depth on show: a number of newer players entered and pushed some of the more experienced pairs, which the club read as a good sign of the talent coming through.

At Headland-Buderim, Dennis Green and Lyn Beh won the 2026 Headland Cup on a perfect day for it, with Steve Bickley and Jill Lenton runners-up. The cup was again generously sponsored by Pam Shepherd.

Windsor's Jenny won the MSOB Division 3 Golf Croquet Singles Championship, a well-earned title.

The Gracemere club, near Rockhampton, ran its 14 Point Extravaganza over a big weekend: 71 games, three codes and 20 players, with visitors travelling from Brisbane, Ingham, Gladstone, Rockhampton and Yeppoon. Windsor's Francesca de Wytt finished runner-up in the Egyptian Singles. The club thanked its sponsors, Gracemere Quality Meats, Livelife Pharmacy Gracemere, Gracemere Hotel, Frenchville Sports Club and Tim North Transport, who help make the weekend possible.

Members on the road

Stephens members had a strong run at the eight-day Gold Coast Tweed Tournament. Elaine and Kevin were runners-up in the mixed AC Handicap Doubles, beaten on the bell by Doug Turner of Coolangatta and Val Smith of Murwillumbah. Elaine also won the Over 75s with Kevin runner-up, and Heather Knight took third in the AC Open Singles at Burleigh Heads / Palm Beach.

East Brisbane's Sue finished in the top four at the NSW Advantage Golf Championships. It was her first time competing outside Queensland and her first time playing Advantage Golf, so a top-four finish was a fine result.

Pennants

It was a busy pennant round across the state.

Windsor claimed another AC pennant win, with Shane, Addison, Willy and Joy in the team.

Eildon's Division 2 side won away at McIlwraith, defeating the hosts 7 games to 3, and 59 hoops to 48, in what the club described as beautiful conditions and some close games.

Ipswich's Division 3 team edged East Brisbane 6 rubbers to 4, though the hoop count told the real story: 53 hoops to 52, about as tight as a day of pennants gets.
