HOOPLA! is the online news site of the Croquet Association of Queensland (CAQ). This page explains the cookies, analytics and advertising tools we use on this website, why we use them, and the choices you have. It sits alongside CAQ’s handling of your personal information under the Australian Privacy Principles.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4to understand how the site is used — which articles are read, roughly where visitors come from, and which devices and browsers they use. This helps us decide what to publish and how to improve the site. The data is aggregated and we do not use it to identify individual readers. Google Analytics sets cookies and may collect your IP address and device information; see Google’s Privacy Policy.

Advertising

We use Google Ads and the Meta Pixel(Facebook and Instagram) so we can measure our advertising and show relevant ads — including “come and try croquet” style ads — to people who have visited this site or who are part of an audience we have created. These tools set cookies and may share information about your visit with Google and Meta. For details see Google’s Advertising policy and Meta’s Privacy Policy.

Advertising to CAQ members

CAQ may show ads to current members using the contact details (such as email address) you provided when you joined or renewed. This is done through Google’s Customer Match and Meta’s Custom Audiences, which match a securely hashed version of your details to your Google or Meta account so we can reach existing members with association news and reminders. We do not sell your details, and you can opt out at any time using the choices below or by contacting us.

Overseas transfer

Google Analytics, Google Ads and the Meta Pixel are operated by Google LLC and Meta Platforms, Inc., both based in the United States. Using these tools means some information described above may be processed on servers located outside Australia. Google and Meta each maintain their own safeguards for this — see the privacy policies linked above for details.

Newsletter links

When we email members our newsletter, we record which articles each member clicks through to read, and the category of those articles, so we can send more relevant updates over time. This information is stored on our own systems and is not shared with third parties. You can opt out of the newsletter at any time using the unsubscribe link in any edition.

Your choices

Tracking on this site is on by default. You can control or opt out of it in several ways:

• Manage or block cookies in your browser settings, or browse in a private/incognito window.
• Adjust the ads Google shows you at Google Ad Center, or install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
• Adjust the ads Meta shows you in your Meta ad preferences.
