Burleigh Heads Palm Beach hosts 58th annual GCTR Open

A wonderful three days on home turf as our club hosted the GCTR (Gold Coast Tweed Region) Open Doubles and AC Championship Open Singles. The conditions were absolutely perfect for this much-loved annual event, which has now been running for an impressive 58 years!
A field of high-profile competitors made the trip, with 38 athletes coming from all over the country and across the ditch in New Zealand. In the Open Singles, Peter Filbee from NZ took the top honours, with our own Dave Luxmoore a fine second and Heather Knight (Stephens club, Brisbane) rounding out the podium in third.
Our members were right in the mix: Dave Luxmoore also finished second in the Open Doubles alongside his partner, came fourth in Division 3. Jock teamed up with Phylis in the Handicap Doubles. A huge thank you to Joy and Dot, who once again worked their magic in the kitchen and kept everyone well fed and watered throughout the competition.

Mallets of beloved members returned to Burleigh Heads Palm Beach

Those of you who remember former club members Paula and Denise Bollington will be touched to hear that their children, Elkie and Emma, recently presented their mothers' mallets to the club. They are pictured here with Carol, who was a dear friend to both Paula and Denise.
Paula and Denise joined us in January 2018 and were much-loved, active members, with Paula serving as Club President from 2022 until April 2023. Leave a comment in remembrance of Paula and Denise.
