Wynnum wraps up 2022 with trophies and a festive Australia Day

2022 Wrap Up - Christmas Party Saturday 17th December The courts were dressed in pink flamingos wrapped in tinsel, for our annual Christmas Party and Trophy Presentation. Providore Viv and her elves did an amazing job in organising the catering and setting up. The huge variety of food provided by the members meant there was a taste sensation with every plate. It certainly was a lovely way to head into the Festive Season. Secretary Aina provided some head scratching questions with her annual Xmas Trivia quiz with the winning table achieving 8 correct answers out of 11 questions. A huge box of Roses chocolates and a mini trophy were awarded to them for their great effort. We were very fortunate to have two very special guests with Therese Prebble from George Hartnett Metropolitan Funerals, a sponsor of many years, and Dell Nichol, a very respected past member of our club, both of whom were very excited to present their trophies. It was a great way to end the year. The 2022 Club Trophies were presented as follows:

Who’s Who at Wynnum CC -The election of the new Management Committee and appointment of Duty Of cers at our AGM in November resulted in a good mix of continuity and fresh faces for the following positions: Management Committee: President - John van Barneveld; Vice President – Shelley Johnson ; Secretary - Aina Johns; Treasurer – Lisa Weightman; Member – Brian Tidmarsh Club Duty Of cers: Archivist – Noela Gray; BSR Delegate – John van Barneveld; Coach Coordinator – Deirdre Giles,; Facebook Officer – Karen Meates; Grants Officer: Karen Meates; Gardening Coordinator: Jenny Hiscock Health & Safety Officer – Diana Kateley; Merchandising Officer – Cheryl Rynja; Provedore – Vivian Tidmarsh; Tournament Manager – Gordon Giles Court Improvement After our Christmas Party, we have had 2 courts out of action for much needed scarifying. With only 2 courts available, we ran a roster for morning or afternoon play to ensure that we could all get a game or two during this time. Our courts 3 & 4 have now been scarified, fertilized and watered, and along with some afternoon storms, they are looking fabulous. Thanks to John, Dianne and Pat for giving them a light trim and they will be ready to play on by the end of January. Courts 1 & 2 will follow in February after the Metropolitan Challenge. We are looking forward to having much improved surfaces when it all recovers. Photos below

Wynnum (Cont.) Australia Day celebrations

What a great way to celebrate Australia Day and get together after what seems to be such a long time. With 2 of our courts recently being out of action after scarifying, and having a 16 person playing roster, it was a delight to have so many members together on this special day. The clubhouse and deck were almost bursting at the seams with happy players, a sheer delight to be amongst. It takes time to set up the courts with all the different games that had been arranged, so thanks must go to Gordon & Deirdre for setting up all the games this morning. AFL, skittles, backward hoop running, the maze, gateball hoops, one handed hoop running and finally closest to the peg from each corner of the court using a croquet ball, a tiny tennis ball and a giant tennis ball. Everyone had so much fun.
