Wynnum reports Queensland GC events, Golden Mallet success and a national Plate win
Wynnum hosted the Queensland GC Third Eights and Fourth Six, celebrated Brian and Viv Tidmarsh’s Golden Mallet win, and Gordon Giles’ Australian GC Plate result with Mary McMahon.
Wynnum hosted the Queensland GC Third Eights and Fourth Six on 12 and 13 April. Storms interrupted play on the first day, but conditions improved on Sunday and players were pleased with the lawns. Claire Warriner won the Third Eight, with John H Smith runner up. Steve Helleur won the Fourth Six, with Megan Stuart runner up.

On 27 April, two Wynnum members competed in the Golden Mallet competition at Southport, which used Advantage Play. The weather was ideal and all three courts were in excellent condition. Brian and Viv Tidmarsh claimed victory and returned with the winner's badge.
Gordon Giles travelled to Cairnlea, Melbourne, with Mary McMahon from Southport for the Australian GC Open Doubles Championship. After three days of round robin play in a highly competitive field, Gordon and Mary won the Plate. Wynnum was very proud of their achievement.
