Wynnum reports Bendigo Bank Mixed Doubles and club championships

THE BENDIGO BANK GC MIXED DOUBLES This tournament was held on Sunday 22nd September at Wynnum and had a full complement of players from Bribie Island, Burleigh Heads Palm Beach, Caloundra, Eildon, McIlwraith, Stephens, Southport and Windsor, as well as some of our own club members, all vying for the honours. The two referees were kept very busy with four courts double banked all day. The weather was very sunny with a nice breeze and players really enjoyed the day. The competition, generously sponsored by Bendigo Bank, was graded by combined handicap into two divisions with cash prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each division.

GC PENNANTS The Graceville team were declared the winner of the BSR Division 2 GC Pennants competition this year on results of 3 match wins and 2 match losses. However, Wynnum Blue team had results of 3 match wins, 1 match loss and 1 drawn match. Wynnum Blue players were understandably disappointed with this outcome.

WYNNUM CROQUET CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS The first round GC Open Singles Level Play was held on 28 September. It was very well attended despite strong winds and rain making the day heavy going. Players were divided into two blocks. The winners of block A were Geoff Hull and John Van Barneveld. The winners of block B were Ron Schodel and Cecelia Haines. The winners of each block will play each other in a semi-final and the final will be played by the winner of each semi-final. Dates are yet to be set.
