Wynnum elects its committee, presents trophies and thanks volunteers

Wynnum held its Annual General Meeting on 7 December 2025. The committee moving forward is Noela Gray as President, Deirdre Giles as Vice President, Shelley Johnson as Secretary, Heidi McGrath as Treasurer, and Jenny Hiscock as Committee Member.

The club combined its Christmas Party on 14 December 2024 with trophy presentations. A large number of members and guests attended. Heavy rain did not dampen enthusiasm, although some members braved the deck because of limited room inside. Members brought a huge range of food, and Brisbane City Council sponsored the cost of ham and chicken. Many helped out, with special mention to new Providore Gail Jensen and those who helped her in the kitchen.

Joan Pease MP presented the shields won throughout 2024. Club Champion was Geoff Hull. Handicap Singles winner was John van Barneveld. Mixed Doubles winners were Ron Schodel and Karen Meates. Most Improved player was shared by Patrick Woulahan and Cameron Hipwell.

Special mention was given to Rita Miles, the club’s super star member, who arrives early every play day to set out tables and chairs, put up the hoops on all four courts, replenish refreshments and empty the dishwasher, usually before anyone else arrives.

As advised in the previous issue, Wynnum’s courts have undergone significant reparation work. They have been scarified, mown to a lower level and rolled. Several intrepid members have attempted rolling under the watchful eye of Troy, the greenkeeper.
