Tweed Heads Spring Carnival battles gale force winds and rain

TWEED HEADS SPRING CARNIVAL

Fraught because with lack of knowledge and expertise we disappointed many players. For which we sincerely apologise. For the future we must have a suitable Committee, with expert guidance brought in, so that we can once again return to halcyon days of past competitions.

Fraught because the weather could not have been worse. Which meant fought was a good description. Of Carnival, there was little atmosphere.

The Saturday, miserable, with assorted warm and rainwear outfits necessary. Play was well fought and Tweed Heads were pleased to crown their own player Peter Dunn as Division 2 Singles Champion. Well done to Peter who is a fairly new player and is making an effort in Golf and Association to become a Competition Player. Runners Up were Joan and Malcolm Hayward.

Sunday, gale force winds and slanting rain arrived for the Doubles Matches. The balls were wriggling. Mallets swung wildly as strokes were taken. It was often a case of stopping a stroke to regain one's balance before taking stance again. However the fight against weather and opponents continued with good grace and sportsmanship throughout. T. Smith and M. McGee were the intrepid winners. K. Hopkins, L. Miller and the invincible Haywards were the runners up.
