Toombul Croquet Club hosted state squads, won three pennant matches and celebrated Christmas in July with a trivia morning.

Toombul Croquet club has been reasonably busy. We've hosted the Association Croquet and Golf Croquet State Squads for their practices. We've also had Bruce and Liz's development Association Squad. We've played 3 Pennant matches with Merthyr, our combined team, and we've won 3 out of 3 tournaments. Greg Kerswell is our Captain and that works well.

The Open Singles tournament was held on the 27th and 28th August and this was won by Les Watson. There were some very tight and interesting games. We were extremely lucky with the weather, a bit fresh, but you can expect it at that time of year. Thanks to Willy and Greg Kerswell for reffing and Geraldine for giving me help showing me how to do the block results. Also thanks to the Toombul ladies who made the cakes. It takes a load off and Wayne and Caroline for setting the hoops.

We had our Christmas in July with a trivia morning and that was a great success. A prize was given, but very kindly, the team that won gave it back to the club. We're going to do the same thing at Christmas as everyone wanted to have another Trivia day. It's lots of fun.

The one thing I have to say is how proud we are of having Wayne Appleby as our green keeper. He's doing a fantastic job and the number of compliments he has had is just wonderful. Thanks Wayne for the things you do behind the scenes, all the things that make our lawns quite the best: fast and fairly true. We have a few little quirky places and he wants to build them up, but I say no, the lawns need a bit of character. Players know where they have to aim to the left to strike the ball on a slope.

We have put on quite a few members and have perhaps 4 more people who are learning. Things are looking up.
