FLASHBACK Murray Tinker: 2017 Australian Champion

In 2017, golf croquet players gathered in Brisbane for the Australian Men's and Women's Singles. The finals were played at Toombul Croquet Club, in warm conditions.

When it was over, Murray Tinker was the Australian Golf Croquet Men's Singles champion. Alan Sands came second and Ross Rillie came third.

A fellow player filmed the final. We have brought Games 2, 3 and 4 to croquetvideos.com, so you can sit back and watch them shot by shot.

There are no advertisements to interrupt the play. You can simply enjoy the match.

Murray has done much more for croquet than win a national title. He has represented Australia. He sat on the board of Croquet Australia, and he did not stand for re-election at the 2018 annual meeting. That same year, he captained Queensland's golf croquet team.

He wrote a golf croquet strategy piece called "The Art of War on the croquet court". Croquetwest, the West Australian croquet body, published it on its website with his permission.

He also runs a YouTube channel where he explains shots and films matches.

These days Murray is club captain at Caloundra Mallet Sports Club. He has also built a set of free croquet visualisers that let you set up and replay shots. They cover golf croquet, association croquet and gateball. You can read more in our earlier story, Coming soon: Murray Tinker's croquet visualiser.
