Stephens shows off new shirts and strong AC representation

Busy times continued for Stephens members, who were enjoying their new club shirts.

A happy Croquet and Soup afternoon was held on Sunday 20 July at the club, with pumpkin soup, minestrone and fish chowder, followed by sweet treats.

Sidney Bates competed in the Australia Qld GC Bronze Medal and reached the semi-final of the Queensland Men's Open. He was selected for the Queensland Interstate Shield Team. Dylan Falls, one of the club's newest members, enjoyed his first try at the monthly Windsor Brooch. Club Championships were under way for both Golf Croquet and Association Croquet.

In Metropolitan Pennants, Stephens had teams in all three Golf Croquet divisions. In Association Croquet, Stephens fielded two teams, Blue with three wins, and White.

There was also Association Croquet news. In the Gold Coast Tweed Region Tournament, Kevin Hamilton-Reen won Division 3 Singles. Elaine Berridge, Brian Rubock, Lindsay David and Heather Knight also represented Stephens in a tournament that attracted players from interstate and New Zealand. Shane Davis from Windsor, returning to croquet after 17 years, won the Gold Coast Open Singles in a tight match against Dave Luxmoore.

Many members entered the upcoming CAQ Women's and Men's Open Singles Championships, including defending Women's Champion Jacky Lynch. The new State Team Squad for the 2026 interstate Eire Cup included Stephens players Jacky Lynch, Bruce Ford, Lindsay David, Chris Borlase, Heather Knight and Kathie Grant. Stephens also reminded members that play under lights is available on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, for both AC and GC.
