Ross Rillie wins silver at Australian GC Singles, and club championships wrap up

2022 saw an increase of members supporting other club’s gala events. Among those, Colin Beckett, Arch Morrison, Russell Robinson, Lorraine Stott, Merryl Cook, Yvonne Palmer, Fran Gray, Viv Lloyd, Bev Sockhill, Loretta Barr and John Muddiman. Well done everyone.

Aust National GC Singles: Congratulations to our member Ross Rillie who won the Aust Men's Singles Silver medal in the Aust Men's Singles in Adelaide. What an achievement. Well done.

Helen Rillie managed to take a few big scalps in the Women's Singles and got as far as a playoff to enter the finals before bowing out. Helen reduced her handicap in the process.

ACA GC Inter State Series: Ross then captained the Qld team with a win over Tasmania and a very satisfying win against Victoria. Graham McLean was presented with Queensland's Player of the Series trophy. The two events over 8 days were played in wet conditions.

Club GC Championships have now been concluded with results as follows: Div 1 C'ship Singles: Helen Rillie. Div 2 C'ship Singles: Colin Beckett. Doubles C'ship: Arch Morrison & Russell Robinson.

The Inaugural GC Handicap Singles was played on 6th Oct. Rather disappointing after initial response to the suggestion of this new event. Congratulations to Merryl Cook (winner) and Cheryl Quatember (Runner Up) after what was a much closer match than the score indicated.

End of Season Get Together: The annual get together for players in the GC Pennant, Shield & Plate was well supported with 21 attending. Ross Rillie thanked all the players for participating and said how important it was to the club to have competitive players representing their club. Colin Beckett made special mention and thanked Merryl Cook for taking over the Captaincy of the Plate side while Cheryl Quetember was away. The function was held at the Maroochy RSL who support the club each year.

Refereeing: The ACA GC Under 21's will be held at Eildon in January with Ross Rillie accepting an invitation to referee which is an honour. Congratulations to Tim Wright & Addison Matthews both of West Toowoomba CC who will be in this event but also for selection to represent Australia in the Under 21's GC World Championships in Feb 2023 in N.Z. Members will remember Tim and Addison winning our Headland Cup in 2022. Seasons Greetings.
