Regional AC tournament at Burleigh Heads and a farewell to referee Andy Hallinon

In early July our club was host to the Regional Association Croquet tournament which has been held in the same month for several years. The tournament manager was our State captain, Dave Luxmoore. Some 50 players battled the lawns and the inclement weather in several categories. With one day completely washed out, congratulations to not just the winners but the competitors from far and wide for finishing the competition. A special mention here for club member Malcolm Campbell who won the division 4 category. Malcolm has only played Association Croquet for a short time and has already reduced his handicap to 14 (which took your scribe several years!)

Our photos show competitors in the singles sections (above left) and the winner of the top category Lachlan Berryman (above right) with runner up Dave Luxmoore. Thanks as always to the club members who helped behind the scenes.

Recently our retiring Golf Croquet examining referee Andy Hallinon was presented with a letter of appreciation and a gift by fellow referee Dot Davidson on behalf of Beryl Turner and the Gold Coast Tweed Region. Andy has been a GC referee for some six years having refereed at national, local and club level. He also spent time as Queensland Director of GC Referees.

With version 6 of the new Golf Croquet rule book in place, Liz Fleming recently conducted a seminar at our club on the new rules. Attended by referees and players from throughout the region, Liz gave a detailed explanation of the changes backed up by a PowerPoint presentation. Questions were fielded and everyone went away with a better understanding of the new rules.

Recently club members Dot Davidson and Steve Scrimgeour took part in a mixed doubles competition at the Wynnum club. They finished runners up, just losing in the final.
