New members welcomed and championships in full swing at Hervey Bay
Hervey Bay welcomes new members, hosts Regional Golf Croquet Pennants, and runs club championships in Golf Croquet, Ricochet and Association.
In recent months the Hervey Bay Croquet Club has welcomed several new members including those seen in the photo with Club president Jenny. It is always a pleasure to see more people showing an interest in croquet and then, after joining, very quickly becoming valued Club members. Some of our new members have particular expertise and an interest in promoting the image of croquet. Their particular contribution at this present time is a re-vamping of the Club's Facebook page. Club championships are in full swing at the moment. The Singles and Doubles Golf Croquet competition was held during the week 8-12 May. The Ricochet competition is being held over the two weeks, 15-26 May and the Association championship will be held in the near future.
The Hervey Bay Club hosted the Regional Golf Croquet Pennants competition on Saturday, 22 April. Good sportsmanship and great games made for a successful and enjoyable Day. Congratulations to the Sunnyside Club, winners of the shield.
Eileen McCann, Regional Coaching Co-ordinator was invited to the Hervey Bay Club to give sessions on an update of the Rules and rule changes for both Golf Croquet and Ricochet. Both sessions were most informative (and enlightening!). Such a day while, not in any way diminishing the social aspect of croquet games, helps to raise the Croquet profile to the next level.

This Region is most appreciative of the opportunity to participate in Coaching Days conducted by top coaches from beyond the Region. On 25 and 26 May Liz and Bruce Fleming will visit the Region (Point Lookout and Sunnyside) to conduct a One Day Association Workshop, 'Association Croquet on the Green' and then on 1 and 2 June the Hervey Bay and Bundaberg Clubs will host a One Day Golf Croquet Workshop led by Pat and Bill Habner. The stated Aim of the latter is - Scenarios on the court relating to the Rules, and Demo on Advanced Golf Play tactics.
The Hervey Bay Club is looking forward to hosting the CAQ Tier 2 Association Singles championship on 17 and 18 June. Preparations are well underway for Hervey Bay's annual three code tournament to be held this year 5-11 August. Entry forms will be forwarded to all Clubs in the first week in June. Do come and join us for Croquet on the Bay and while you are here, make sure that you 'have a whale of a time'. (A word of advice: Book early: it's the busy whale watching season!).
