Murwillumbah welcomes new members and hosts GCT Region Mixed Doubles

Murwillumbah's new Publicity Officer Maria was recovering from a hip replacement, with hopes she would soon be back in action. The club has welcomed two new members and now has 21 registered members.

Members entered the Border Trophy NSW v Qld on 18 June, Mallet Sports on the Broadwater on 21 and 22 June, and the Gold Coast Tweed Region tournament on 11 and 12 July, with various successes.

The GCT Region Mixed Doubles was played at Murwillumbah in glorious weather, and visitors commented on the standard of the lawns. Peter and Cheryl Filbee from New Zealand were winners. Greg Rowberry from South Australia and Joy Hughes from Murwillumbah were runners up.

The club thanked David Chapman and helpers for setting the hoops each play day, and Juliet, Von and kitchen helpers for their work during the GCT Region event.

The Ricochet Doubles tournament was scheduled for 13, 14 and 15 August. Pennant competitions in Association and Ricochet were under way, and club competitions in both codes had started for play days through the year, with presentations planned for the Christmas function.

Visitors from Brisbane played at the club and enjoyed socialising with members. The club thanked Dave and Val for offering instruction, and members for their afternoon tea contributions. Margaret and Jan had been travelling, and members continued their afternoon tea on the last Sunday of each month.
