Mini competitions, a school visit and a bright future for the under 21s at West Toowoomba

During April we ran our Sunday afternoon mini golf croquet competition which consisted of a game of singles and a game of doubles each week. Those who entered had a good time and learnt a lot. Congratulations to winner Jean and runner-up Bev. Thanks to Kaz for organising the event and for making the amazing trophies.

The annual Darling Downs Association tournament was unable to proceed in February this year due to flooding in South-East Queensland and has been rescheduled for 20th and 21st August. Entries are welcome from players of all divisions with a number of players competing in their first association tournament.

We will follow this up with a CAQ 6+ doubles event (enter via the Croquet Queensland website) and a Gala Day for players to take part in a fun competition. Our annual club championships are underway with Association, Ricochet and Golf Croquet on offer.

News from our Under 21's: Timothy and Addison recently teamed together to win the Headland Cup and made the championship block of the Queensland GC Open Doubles. Frances and Addison were invited to the Civic Reception held by Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner to celebrate the centenary of Croquet Queensland.

Addison in recent months has won competitions at Stephens, Windsor and the Gold Coast. The MSOB Division 2 GC final was between Timothy and Addison, what a great outlook for the future of the game. With these two, along with Frances, the under 21's are looking forward to competing in the National Under 21's to be played in Queensland in January 2023 and have all expressed their interest in playing in the 2023 Under 21 World Golf Croquet Championship which will be held between 8-12 February 2023 in Mount Maunganui, North Island, New Zealand.

In July we hosted a local school for their Year 7 team building activity. 30 students spent the afternoon learning the skills of croquet before playing a game of Golf Croquet. All students and teachers who attended had a fun time and found out the croquet was more skilful, tactical and competitive than they expected.

Other activities held lately have been a Bunnings Sausage Sizzle, a 21st Birthday party, a family reunion for a family whose grandparents were members in the 1950's and a school holiday Golf Croquet fun day.
