McIlwraith members prove no hoop is too hard

McIlwraith Croquet Club in Auchenflower has proved that senior croquet players are never too old to learn. In January, one of the state’s oldest clubs made the transition from traditional white hoops to international standard Quadways.

Within one week, more than half of the club’s 80 members had been trained and had embraced the techniques needed for installing and removing Quadways, using sabots, spirit levels, rubber mallets and hoop lifters.

Members of McIlwraith’s Feffs Mob, as they are affectionately known, are 80-something-year-old players who have used traditional white hoops for more than 20 years. They all completed their Quadway training with flying colours, proving no hoop is too hard.
