McIlwraith celebrates player development and Angus Cole’s scholarship

McIlwraith Croquet Club has celebrated the success of its Player Development Program and the award of its inaugural Young Player Development Scholarship.

Across six weeks in March and April, 29 members, almost one third of the playing community, registered for structured coaching. Sessions were tailored for Level 1 and Level 2 players, with personalised feedback, targeted drills and a supportive team environment.

The program was led by Penny Jackson, national referee, accredited coach and former Director of Golf Croquet in Queensland, along with Club Captain Charles Mitchell and senior players.

President Deb Camden said the initiative aligned with two strategic priorities: delivering value to members and a strong player experience. Participant feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and the club is already looking at ways to build on the foundation.

McIlwraith also announced Angus Cole as the first recipient of its Young Player Development Scholarship. Angus is a talented and dedicated young player, with croquet in the family through his father Andrew Cole, aunt Gayle Petrie and uncle Steve O'Hare. The scholarship supports Angus's continued development and recognises his potential as a future leader in the sport.
