Kairos College visit, GC doubles wins and a state captain at Headland Buderim
Headland Buderim hosts Kairos Community College, wins CAQ GC 6+ Doubles, and sees Ross Rillie named Queensland GC Team Captain.
Kairos Community College (Caloundra) held their end of term team building exercise playing croquet on Friday 24th June. Helen and Ross Rillie took great pleasure hosting the staff members. It was great to see these 12 engaging young men and women having such a good time and clearly showed their skills from previous sessions. They were playing for The Swinging Wood championship trophy. Kairos Community Colleges are an independent, non-government college and cater for those students in Year 10, 11 and 12 who have become disengaged or disenfranchised with mainstream schooling. It provides a flexible approach to education that is highly supportive, structured and provides its students with the genuine opportunity to achieve academically.
CAQ's GC 6+ Doubles worthy winners were club members Lorraine Stott and Russell Robinson at Eildon CC on 19th June. Runners Up were Steve Helleur and Rino Parella.
CAQ GC Open Doubles Consolation winners were Helen and Ross Rillie winning 9 out of 12 games over the 25th and 26th June weekend at Wynnum. Deserving winners of the Cynthia Tacey and Greg Kerswell trophy were great mates Peter Nicholson (McIlwraith) and Murray Tinker (Caloundra CC).

Queensland State GC Team member Ross Rillie is honoured to be named Captain of the team. It is with pride that Ross accepted the role. Helen is named as a reserve. Both have represented their state before. They will travel to South Australia in September to initially watch the Gold Medal event and then compete in the National Men's and Women's Singles followed up by the ISS (Inter State Shield). These 2 events run for 9 days straight. The full team names can be seen on CAQ's webpage. Training days will continue through until departure.
Visitors: Among our many visitors of late are Jutta and Peter Webb (Albury CC), Brenda and Jim Jackson (Belmont CC Vic), Georgia (Cammeray CC NSW) and regular visitors Kaye and Brian Sawford (Sandringham CC Victoria) to name a few. It is such a pleasure to meet and play with the many visitors who arrive mostly during the winter months. They all express their appreciation of their warm welcome and friendliness of the members.
Many members have entered various code tournaments around the region which is great experience. Recently, member Russell Robinson was Runner Up in the Caboolture Sports Club Challenge 11 at Bribie on the 16th and 17th July. Russell was pipped at the post going down 5-6 to Addison Matthews (West Toowoomba).
Regional GC Pennants Shield and Plate events are nearing completion. Russell Robinson has reduced his handicap to 5 and Pauline Hickey to 11. Congratulations.
