Hervey Bay hosts CAQ Tier 2 Association championships and welcomes new members
Hervey Bay hosted the CAQ Tier 2 Association championships, welcomed referees Liz and Bruce Fleming, held a Golf Croquet and Ricochet Skills Day with Pat and Bill Habner, and welcomed four new members.
Looking back over the past couple of months shows that it has been quite a busy time for the Hervey Bay Croquet Club, with a variety of events including CAQ, Regional and those within the club.
It was a real privilege to host the CAQ Tier 2 Association championships. The club was delighted to welcome Liz and Bruce Fleming as referees for the event and to have Geraldine Trivett (Event's co-ordinator, CAQ) as one of the competitors. The photo shows Gordon Cooper, the tournament winner from the Bundaberg Croquet Club, receiving the trophy from Geraldine.
The club looks forward to a return visit from Liz and Bruce Fleming who will conduct an Association Workshop in early September. This Workshop has been organized by Eileen McCann, the coaching co-ordinator for this Region. Eileen also organized a visit from Pat and Bill Habner for a Golf Croquet and Ricochet Skills Day. The participants enjoyed the day immensely and also greatly appreciated the helpful hints, strategies and so on imparted by Bill and Pat.

Visits from folk to the Region from the higher echelons of Croquet Queensland give a sense of belonging and are very much appreciated by those who belong to regional clubs.
The Hervey Bay Club recently participated in two Regional tournaments: a Golf Doubles championship held at Point Lookout and the Rhonda Lang Ricochet Doubles championship held at Hervey Bay. The photo shows Jocelyn Watts (Hervey Bay) and Frank Meek (Isis), the runners-up in Block B of the Ricochet Doubles, receiving their award from Wayne Lusk, Chair of the Region.

It is always very pleasing to welcome new members to the club. The photo shows John and Lyn Totman, Paul Rutherford and Margaret Woods receiving their affiliation cards and membership packs from the club president, Jenny.

I know that most clubs look for interesting ways to raise funds. Following an inspiration from one of the club members, the Hervey Bay Club members had a busy, enjoyable afternoon planting up pots. With tender loving care the pots should, in a little while, display colourful blooms or flourishing herbs which will hopefully attract a buyer or two.

Coming events
- 21 July: Lunch and presentation of Club championship awards for Golf and Ricochet. - 05-11 August: Croquet on the Bay. Entries for the tournament have been most pleasing with some events at capacity. The club looks forward to a great tournament and trusts everyone will have a whale of a time and enjoy some great games and great Hervey Bay hospitality.
