Headland Buderim family challenge, CAQ Open Men's Singles, and Sunshine Coast Regional Championships
Headland Buderim hosts a family challenge, sees members compete in the CAQ Open Men's Singles and Women's Singles, and achieve success at the Sunshine Coast Regional Championships.
Family Challenge 5th March
Croquet was chosen for this year's Neil Holmes Memorial Cup sport challenge. It was fitting that family matriarch, Kath Holmes at 99, ran a hoop for the camera. Kath had been a member of the Headland Croquet Club for a short time over 30 years ago. It was so lovely to see such a wide range of ages with happy smiles thoroughly enjoying themselves. Member Colin Beckett was coordinator for the afternoon event on the 5th Feb. Thank you to Colin and his helpers.
CAQ Open Men's Singles 25-26th February
Members playing in this event were Ross Rillie (Defending Champion) and Russell Robinson. Ross did well although did not retain the trophy which went to Casey De Vene. Russell also did well for his first time in the event and won the Plate. Congratulations to all, well done.
Buderim Gardens Come and Try 26th February
Again coordinated by Colin Beckett, this successful and enjoyable session saw a good roll up of 12 who all enjoyed the experience.
CAQ Open Women's Singles 4-5th March
Member Helen Rillie who held the trophy in 2017 and 2018 came in 5th place out of 22 entrants. Well-deserved winner, Mary McMahon.
Sunshine Coast Regional Championships 9-25th March
Members entering this event were Russell Robinson, Lesley Johnston, Lorraine Stott, Colin Beckett, David Morris and Arch Morrison. David Morris was the winner of AC Div 1 Singles. Lesley Johnston was the runner up in AC Div 3 and 4. Lesley Johnston and Lorraine Stott were the winners GC +14 Handicap Doubles. Congratulations to everyone including host clubs and their workers. Still to play after close of article submission, Arch Morrison in GC Div 3 Singles on 25th March.

David Morris, SCRCC AC Div 1 winner.

Lesley Johnston and Lorraine Stott, SCRCC GC Div +14 Doubles winners.
Refereeing
Member Ross Rillie refereed the CAQ Open Women's Singles. Ross was also Tournament Referee for the Sunshine Coast Regional Championships.
Venue Manager Training
Meryl Cook, Cheryl Quatember and Shirley Eames were able to take part in some SC Regional events for training for the upcoming Nationals next year.
Club Secretary
Sherry Tusler has been hard at work negotiating a secure and fair lease as the Sunshine Council bring in new reforms to their leasing policies for clubs such as ours. Very time consuming indeed. Thanks Sherry.
SCRCC GC Pennant, Shield and Plate, plus AC Pennant
The club has teams entered into these regional tournaments.
Family and Friends Sunday Afternoon Picnic Croquet
This innovative idea was set in motion by Colin Beckett on 19th Mar. Another followed on 19th March which was well supported and enjoyed. Hopefully it will become a regular event.
CAQ Open Doubles
Due to a recent injury, members Helen and Ross Rillie had to withdraw. Not to miss the event, Ross was able to then referee.
Wishing everyone all the best croquet offers.
