Eildon's first GC Gala Day of 2026 a resounding success

Eildon's first GC Gala Day of 2026 promised and delivered an outstanding day of croquet, with thirty-two enthusiastic participants forming sixteen pairs and competing in two blocks for a spirited round robin event. The unusually warm autumn weather set the scene for a busy day, with each pair playing seven games.
It was brilliant to see the friendly faces from clubs near and far: Kerrie and Ian from McIllwraith; Gwen, Jill L., Sandra, Joan, and Bernadette from Bribie Island; Lynn, Lorraine C., and Elaine representing Ipswich; Maia joining from Twin Rivers; Fay from Merthyr; Sue R. from Stephens; and Suzanne from Wynnum, all contributing to a great day of croquet.
For Eildon members Wendy, Barbara, Sue U., and Bruce, it was their debut Gala Day, while familiar faces Kathy, Jennifer, Anthony, Di, Graeme, Libby, Andre, Arthur, Gavin, Grahame, Peter, Judy, Cath/Kay, and Maggie were all in attendance.
The competition for top spots was fierce, with every match keenly contested and the winners decided by the narrowest of margins.
In Block A, Maggie/Lorraine matched Peter/Bernadette on games won and net hoops, so then it went down to which pair won when they played each other. In that case, Peter and Bernie prevailed 5-4.
In Block B, Graeme and Sandra took the honours with five wins and an impressive thirteen net hoops. The scramble for second place was equally close, with Di and Bruce prevailing on a count back among three pairs on four wins.
Congratulations to everyone!
A massive thank you to the volunteers who made the day possible; your dedication is legendary.
Already looking forward to the next brilliant gathering of croquet and friendship!
