Coolangatta celebrates competition, coaching and plans for renewal

Coolangatta has had a busy and successful month, highlighted by competition, T-shirts and sausages. Four Ricochet players competed in the Queensland Ricochet Championships at Burleigh Heads Palm Beach. The club congratulated Dave Luxmoore from BHPB on becoming Australian and Queensland Ricochet champion, with Kathie Grant runner up.

Two perfect days of sunshine helped the Birthday Golf Handicap Doubles Competition. Seven teams from Ballina, Byron Bay, BHPB and Coolangatta played the round robin event. Dennise Simmons and Stuart Elliott from Byron Bay won, defeating BHPB players Anne Rawding and Malcolm Campbell in the final. Yuni Rowell presented the prizes.

Members have chosen the emblem for new club shirts, expected by the end of June.

Coaching and referee clinics in Golf, Association and Ricochet continue with Kathie and Robert between Coolangatta and BHPB. They remain popular and valuable for participants.

A recent Bunnings BBQ gave the bank balance a lift. A working party has also started developing a recruitment program to encourage new, and particularly young, players.

Upcoming events include the State of Origin Gold Coast Tweed Regional Tournament Border Trophy on 18 June at BHPB, and the Gold Coast Tweed Regional Tournament Singles from 5 to 13 July across Gold Coast venues.

Applications for the $100,000 Gambling Community Benefits Fund have opened, and the club will again seek help to renovate its iconic but deteriorating clubhouse.
