Cherry Street CC Ballina reflects on a successful 2024

Cherry Street CC Ballina described 2024 as another very successful year for the club. Highlights included hosting State Titles, success for members on the tournament circuit, Interclub success, record numbers in Club Championships, Croquet for kids, fundraising events and Twilight Golf Croquet.

Australian & State Champions and State Runners Up awards were gained by players from the Northern Rivers through hard work, dedication and commitment. David Scott, Ray Chapman, Mike Gidding, Phyllis Waters, Werner Borkhardt, Gerd Modlich and Jed Hart all gained top awards in different versions and divisions.

David Scott in Golf Croquet and Mike Gidding in Association Croquet were both selected in State NSW Representative Teams, a well deserved selection for two dedicated and successful players.

The club also recognised lady members Wendy Gilmore, Christine Edlund, Helen Young, Phyllis Waters, Joan Doust, Robbie Allen, Noelene Barnes, Penny Scott, Rossie Offley and Debbie Jones, who have played continually on the tournament circuit with success and camaraderie. Their handicaps have slowly come down.

On the local Club Championships and club games, the club's Golden oldies have dominated events. Robbie Allen, Joan Doust, Norma Watts, Noelene Barnes, Barbara Wellings, Pauline Bolte, Elaine Astley, Maurie Russell, Jim Hannigan, Neville Poynting, David Taylor, Faye Duncan, Jan Copeland, Jenny O’Sullivan and Gloria Drew were all playing extremely well and continuing consistently.

Club Champions 2024 for all divisions and versions were finalised. The club congratulated Robbie Allen, Joan Doust, Robyn Poynting, Phyllis Waters, James Bate, David Scott, Ray Chapman, Neville Poynting, Maurie Russell, Gloria Drew, Barbara Wellings, David Scott, Sue Hume and David Taylor.
