Byron Bay collects NRCA trophies, welcomes visitors and invents Aussie Rules croquet
Byron Bay reports Sawtell, NRCA events, Friendship Days, trophy presentations, many visitors and a social Aussie Rules croquet variation.
Dennise Simmons and Stuart Elliot played at Sawtell from 8 to 11 August in rainy conditions. Stuart's block was closely contested and he came third. Denis Cummings and Barbara Barrett represented Byron Bay in the NRCA Handicapped Regional Championships, while the NRCA Handicapped Doubles planned for Byron Bay had to be cancelled due to torrential rain.
Byron Bay players joined the Cherry Street Friendship Day in Ballina, then Lismore's Friendship Day and NRCA presentations. Denis collected The Westport Cup, The Blue Pennant Shield and The OBE Shield for Byron Bay. Gerd Modlich helped collect badges for Geoff Leach, Jed Hart, Geoff Young and Dennise Simmons. Helen McKay won the Advantaged Singles, and Barbara Barrett collected one of the large raffles.

September brought many visitors to Byron Bay, including Cherry Street and Ballina members while Ballina's lawns were closed. A 3m python also appeared on the lawn before Warren Simmons rescued it. Stuart's impending knee replacement inspired a social game named Aussie Rules for BBCC.
