Burleigh Heads Palm Beach marks 50 years at Palm Beach

Burleigh Heads Palm Beach Croquet Club is marking 50 years at Palm Beach in 2025. The club name is a nod to both past and present. Research from the Local Studies Librarian at Gold Coast City Council has shown the club was established at Burleigh Heads in 1949, not 1950 as members had believed. It moved to its current Palm Beach location in 1975.

The annual Christmas function and presentation of awards was held on 27 November. Ted Creswick was awarded most improved male player and Beth Parker most improved female player. Encouragement awards went to Lorelle Wilson and Ross Wilson, and Dot Davidson took the prize for the greatest number of holes in one made during the year.

Club President Malcolm Campbell also presented Joy Manning with a club shirt in appreciation of the tireless work she has done for the club during the year.

Members said goodbye and thank you to greenskeeper Steve Scrimgeour, who has moved to Port Macquarie in New South Wales. The club will miss him and wished him well at his new location.

Malcolm Campbell was also congratulated for successfully completing his written and practical examinations to become an Association Croquet Umpire. Umpires and referees are a vital part of the sport, and the club encourages more players to take that path. Happy Hooping.
