Bundaberg hosts the Margaret Webley Event and Queensland Golf Doubles

Once again Bundaberg Croquet Club has enjoyed hosting its Annual Margaret Webley Croquet Event. Two fun filled days of Golf Croquet and Ricochet saw our Events Manager Wilma Palmer pleased with the entries, and our four lawns were put to good use in fielding a full complement of 32 players in both codes.

Even though the Sponsorship Prize Pool goal for this event was a little harder to achieve this year, Wilma was still able to continue with the tradition of rewarding every player with a token monetary prize.

Players entering this event travelled from interstate as well as Brisbane and our local Wide Bay Region.

Block A winners: X - Brian Walsh (Sunnyside) and Kay Moffat (Hervey Bay); Y - Glen Stronach (Bundaberg) and Eric Nussbaumer (Pt. Lookout); Z - Harry Palmer (Bundaberg) and Bob Brydon (Bundaberg).

Block B winners: X - Robert Roose (Eildon) and Ian Johnson (Sunnyside); Y - Ann McLennan (Sunnyside) and Cal Toft (Bundaberg); Z - Joy Boys (Bundaberg) and Peter Moffat (Hervey Bay).

Block A/B winners: Robert Roose (Eildon) and Russel Davis (Bundaberg). Block A/B runners up: Cath Beverley (Pt. Lookout) and Graham Rudd (Sunnyside). Block C winners: Judy Williams (Sunnyside) and Ros Crowe (Eildon). Block C runners up: Janice Ing (Bundaberg) and Chris Lyon (Eildon).

Bundaberg Croquet Club was also fortunate this year to be able to host the Queensland Golf Doubles 6 plus Handicap. This event gave some of our local players an excellent opportunity to participate in and enjoy the experience of a CAQ Event for the first time. Players participating were from Caloundra, Pt. Lookout, Hervey Bay, Sunnyside and Bundaberg.

The winners were Del Smith and Glen Stronach from Bundaberg CC, with Rae Bell and Carolyn Lines from Sunnyside CC as runners up. Joy Boys and Peter Woodland from Bundaberg CC finished third, and Kaye Moffat and Maxine O'Dwyer from Hervey Bay CC were fourth.

Congratulations also to our Association players Troy McCallum and Gordon and Vicki Cooper, who have been busy representing the club at various competitions. Gordon was successful in winning the Gala Centenary AC Event 2 held at Hervey Bay. Troy, Gordon and Vicki travelled to Toombul to compete in the Qld AC Open Singles. Troy was successful in winning the X in the Consolation XYZ and Vicki was runner up in the Y. Troy has again succeeded in winning at the Qld AC Mens Open Singles held at Eildon, finishing the competition with a win in all six of his games.
