Bundaberg celebrates Laurie Smith Doubles and the Burnett Tournament
Bundaberg reports the Laurie Smith Association Handicap Doubles, the Burnett Tournament across three codes, and the upcoming Margaret Webley Ricochet and Golf Croquet Event.
Greetings from Bundaberg.
The Laurie Smith Association Handicap Doubles were played at Bundaberg Club on Sunday 26 May, ably managed by Wayne Lusk. The lawns were in great shape. This competition has been in place since the 1990s, when the late Laurie Smith, a keen Bundaberg member, had the idea of starting a competition between the four Wide Bay and Burnett clubs: Bundaberg, Sunnyside, Point Lookout and Hervey Bay. It is remarkable that it is still going strong in 2024.
The winners were Troy McCallum (Bundaberg) and Beverley Baker (Hervey Bay). The runners up were Gordon Cooper (Bundaberg) and Jenny Campbell (Hervey Bay).

The Burnett Tournament has been held, and a great time was had by all who participated. Many thanks go to Wilma and Melissa Palmer for their hard work to make the event a success. Club President Glen Stronach presented the prizes.
All three codes were catered for. In Association singles, 1st and 2nd Division was won by Troy McCallum (Bundaberg), with Kathie Grant (Southport) runner up. The 3rd and 4th Division Singles winner was Kay Robertson (Point Lookout), with Glenn Stronach (Bundaberg) runner up.

The Margaret Webley Ricochet and Golf Croquet Event is fast approaching. This year it is being held at the beginning of July on Thursday 5th and Friday 6th. Entries are coming in, so players need to get their entries in early to secure a place. Bundaberg looks forward to seeing everyone there.
