Broadbeach prepares for Norfolk Island and celebrates six 80th birthdays
Broadbeach reports a Golf Croquet Fun Tournament, six members turning 80, Norfolk Island preparation, ongoing Association play, and a vale for Cynthia Edwards.
Broadbeach held a Golf Croquet Fun Tournament on 6 April for ten players preparing to travel to Norfolk Island in June for the Convicts Cup. Some newer members had not played in a tournament before. The day was fine, lunch was delicious, and five rounds made for a good day of competition.
The winning pair was Bob Neate and Jim Gardiner, who won all their games. Annette Gatland organised the tournament.

The club also celebrated six members turning 80 this year. Members enjoyed a lasagne and salad lunch, sweets, and cake. Those celebrating were Wolf Fettig, Eric Hollins, Glenda Bosward, Jan Ralph, Bob Neate and Barrie Barnard.

Players have been enjoying time on the court, with Golf Croquet on Wednesday afternoons moving to a 2 pm start for the next few months. The players going to Norfolk Island have also been taking part in Sunday doubles competition, organised by Annette Gatland.
Recently Gerry Dutton organised a festive meal for members who have turned, or are turning, 80 this year. Association Croquet continues on Saturday and Tuesday mornings, and players from other clubs are welcome.
Broadbeach also bade farewell to Cynthia Edwards, who passed away at the beginning of May. Cynthia enjoyed Golf Croquet at Broadbeach and competed in pennants and other tournaments. Her grace, humour and smile will be missed.
