Wynnum wins annual challenge match against Twin Rivers

he annual challenge match between Twin Rivers and Wynnum Croquet Clubs was held on 20th May in spectacularly beautiful weather.

Each year the clubs play for a lovely trophy as well as 'bragging rights' for the next twelve months, but the biggest benefit of the day is the opportunity for players from both clubs to get together and enjoy each other's company and some very enjoyable games of croquet.

As usual, our Provedore Aina and her merry band of willing helpers did us proud and produced some truly wonderful food. Thank you ladies. President Liz and Secretary Bruce cooked up a storm on the BBQ and provided a delicious sausage sizzle for the hungry players and supporters.

Thanks also to those 'early birds' who turn up at the club not long after daybreak to prepare the courts. Your help is much appreciated.

Our Tournament Referee, Gordon, was kept on his toes, looking after 4 courts, adjudicating on hampered shots, double taps, crushes, jump shots, etc. etc. and needed a short nap when he got home!! Great job G.

Our lawns are in top condition and provided for some excellent croquet. At the end of play Wynnum were declared the winners, and our President, Liz Fleming, presented the trophy to club captain Deirdre Giles.
