Wynnum welcomes Manly State School students to croquet
Wynnum Croquet Club has spent the past couple of months teaching Manly State School students how to play. Two groups of 25 children have visited so far, with two more groups to come.
ur club has been involved with Manly State School over the past couple of months, and we have had the privilege of being part of their extracurricular activity of learning all about croquet and, most importantly, how to play. The children are accompanied by two school teachers who keep a close eye on all activity and make sure everyone is well behaved.
From the laughter during play, it appears they are enjoying the sport and all the tactics that are associated with the game. They are very eager learners. They quickly catch on to the next colour ball to play, and how to hit their opponent away and out of the hoop. This appears to be the most exciting part of the game.
After a quick stop for a much-needed cold drink, they are quickly back on the courts to finish off their game before departing back to school on the bus.
To date we have had 2 groups of 25 children through and have another 2 groups to go. The club volunteers have been fabulous, giving their time to coach and be part of the new generation of possible players in our sport.
