AQ Alternate Stroke AC Doubles 2024
Two Wynnum club members, Liz Fleming and Cecelia Hains, played in the CAQ Alternate Stroke AC Doubles on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th April 2024, held at Caloundra.
This event was designed to introduce some of the newer AC players to tournament play, while having the benefit of a more experienced partner/mentor to guide them. It was a successful event and was very much enjoyed by the players.
A total of 16 competitors were divided into two blocks for the qualifying round on Saturday.
Liz and Cecelia qualified from Block B to enter the KO 8 and finally ended up in 3rd position. Well done.

Gordon Giles wins CAQ First Eight GC Singles

The CAQ First & Second Eight GC Singles was played at Toombul Croquet Club on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th of April 2024, in glorious sunshine, with the players competing in a Double Round Robin event. Our Wynnum club members, Gordon Giles and Geoff Hull, were contestants: Gordon in the First Eight and Geoff as one of the 8 contestants in the Second Eight.
In a Double Round Robin, all players play against each other on Saturday and front up again on Sunday and do it all over again. Games were double-banked and timed to 60 minutes.
The winner in the First Eight wasn't decided until the last round of games on Sunday, which made for a fascinating finale to the tournament.
Congratulations to the winner of the First Eight, Gordon Giles (Wynnum) with 9 wins, and Runner-Up, Mary McMahon (Southport) with 8 wins. Well done.
