AQ GC Men's Open Singles – Saturday 25th & Sunday 26th February 2023

We had 3 members compete in the CAQ GC Men's Open Singles: Gordon Giles, Geoff Hull and Ron Schodel.

The players were allocated into 3 blocks, with blocks A and B played at Eildon and block C played at Stephens on the Saturday. On the Sunday, the top 5 in each block and the best 6th place player competed in the Championship finals played at Eildon for the Pam Shepherd Trophy, with the remainder competing for the Carmel Donley Plate at Stephens.

The finals of Championship X, Y, Z and W were the best of 3, 13 point games, timed at 1 hour each game. The Championship final between Casey de Vene and Bob Martin was a "nail-biting" match with some exceptional play by both competitors. Casey finally won game 3 to take out the Pam Shepherd Trophy.

Meanwhile at Stephens, 5 players competed in the Plate block, with Russell Robinson (Headland Buderim) winning by 1 net hoop from Mike Mabbutt to secure the Carmel Donley Plate.

The winners of each of the finals were:

Championship W (13th - 16th Place) - Ron Schodel (r/u Wade Hart) Championship Y (9th - 16th Place) - Addison Matthews (r/u Graham McLean) Championship Z (5th - 8th Place) - Gordon Giles (r/u Charlie Ernst) Championship X & Pam Shepherd Trophy - Casey De-Vene (r/u Bob Martin)
