Wynnum members celebrate Australia Day together

hat a great way to celebrate Australia Day and get together after what seems to be such a long time. With two of our courts recently out of action after scarifying, and a 16-person playing roster, it was a delight to have so many members together on this special day. The clubhouse and deck were almost bursting at the seams with happy players, a sheer delight to be amongst.

It takes time to set up the courts with all the different games that had been arranged, so thanks must go to Gordon and Deirdre for setting up all the games this morning. There was AFL, skittles, backward hoop running, the maze, gateball hoops, one-handed hoop running and, finally, closest to the peg from each corner of the court using a croquet ball, a tiny tennis ball and a giant tennis ball. Everyone had so much fun.

Morning tea included damper fresh out of the oven with butter and smothered in golden syrup (thanks Providore Viv), lamingtons, and heaps of chilled watermelon.

Lunch was a BBQ, and thanks must go to Tony and Brian for their expertise at the BBQ, a real treat. Pavlova with tons of fresh cream and fruit followed.

Days like this never happen out of the blue. It takes planning, time and volunteers, and we are so fortunate to have these in our members.

Happy Australia Day.
