Wynnum hosts successful Gala Day GC Handicap Doubles
Wynnum's first Gala Day GC Handicap Doubles for 2021 drew players from five clubs. The final was an epic battle that went down to the last hoop.
ur first Gala Day GC Handicap Doubles for 2021 was held on Sunday 28 February and was a great success, with players from Bribie Island, Burleigh Heads Palm Beach CC, Graceville, Twin Rivers and Windsor, as well as a number of our own club members.
As with any tournament, a team effort is required to achieve a good result, and our team did us proud. From hoop-setting and court preparation, right through to games organisation and management including refereeing, cleaning and catering, raffles, etc., we had a lot of willing volunteers. Many thanks to everyone.
The weather was very muggy and scorching hot, so all croquet players and spectators had to keep hydrated. Our lawns were looking fantastic, all helped by the recent rain.
There were some fiercely contested games with close results. The final was an epic battle that went down to the last hoop and was won by Dianne Lovi (Wynnum) and Michele Reed (Twin Rivers). In second place were Esme Lucas Havens (Wynnum) and Dot Davidson (Burleigh Heads Palm Beach), with Randall Whyte (Graceville) and Diana Kateley (Wynnum) third.
