Wynnum hosts Renaissance Gala Day 2022

After all the rain over the past week, the weather gods were smiling for our Gala Day on Thursday 7 July 2022, sponsored by Renaissance Retirement Living.

We had 22 players coming from six clubs: Burleigh Heads Palm Beach, Eildon, Ipswich, Twin Rivers, Windsor and Wynnum. It was a pleasure to see so many smiling faces and everyone enjoying their croquet. A few players dropped out due to illness and Wendy Snowdon stepped in to even up the numbers. It was a pleasure to see her playing in a Gala Day again.

Players were divided into two blocks and had three games before the lunch break and two games in the afternoon. The winners of each block then progressed to the final.

The final between the winners of Block A, Jannene Wall (Ipswich) and Wendy Scroope (Wynnum), and the winners of Block B, Dot Davidson (Burleigh Heads) with Esme Lucas Havens (Wynnum), was a classic, with Jannene and Wendy taking the game 5-4 at the end of time (60 minutes). Runners-up Dot and Esme put up a great battle.

Second place in Block A went to Heather Scott (Ipswich) and David Ford (Wynnum).

Second place in Block B went to Michele Reed (Twin Rivers) and Joy Manning (Burleigh Heads).

The presentation of prizes was made by Lyndsay MacKinder from Renaissance Retirement Living to the winners and, as always, we thank Renaissance for their sponsorship.

Hosting this event was a team effort by Wynnum members, and thanks must go to all those who helped on the day, and also the caterers. Well done everyone, it was a great day.
