Wynnum hosts annual Metropolitan Challenge
Wynnum hosted the annual Metropolitan Challenge on Sunday 3rd February with 32 players, many from other clubs. Gordon Giles and Richard Pickvance took first place.
he annual Metropolitan Challenge was held at our club on Sunday 3rd February with a full complement of 32 players, many of whom came from other clubs. It is always great to meet up again with such wonderful competitors.
Our 4 courts were double banked, with 2 games being played at the same time on each court.
A heavy downpour of rain during the morning had many players running for their rain jackets, and the speed of the courts slowed down for a short time. It didn't take long for the speed to increase once the sun came out again.
The competition was strong and some wonderfully tactical shots were played. It was a real delight to watch.
Our sponsor Therese, from Metropolitan Funerals, was available to present the awards to the winners, who were:
- 1st: Gordon Giles and Richard Pickvance - 2nd: Lawrie Simpson and Geoff Jamieson - 3rd: Dennis Green and Geoff Hull
The X, Y, Z games were played off for The Plate, and the winners were David Ford and Karen Meates.
Congratulations to all the winners.
Huge thanks must go to the organisers of the event, Deirdre and Bruce, thanks also to the referees Liz and Sue, and to Aina and her kitchen helpers for keeping us all fed throughout the day. Well done team.
Thanks to all the competitors who entered, because without you there would be no event.
A special thank you must go to our sponsor, Metropolitan Funerals, for their continued support.
