Wynnum Croquet Club celebrates 100 years
Wynnum Croquet Club marked its 100th birthday on Sunday 16 February with honoured guests, games, food and a cake cut by a 99-year-old member. Thanks go to the many helpers and the organising committee.
ynnum Croquet Club's 100th birthday celebration was held on Sunday 16th Feb. We were thrilled to have so many honoured guests join us, including Joan Pease MP, Member for Lytton, Alex Givney, our local Councillor and Club Patron, plus two great grandchildren of the Sands family, whose great grandmother struck the first croquet ball on our lawns 100 years ago. It was nice to have two representatives from Croquet Queensland as well.
Many guests were from other croquet clubs, who not only enjoyed the festivities but also had a hard game of croquet on our courts. It was super to see so many people having such a good time.
The food and wine were plentiful throughout the day, with thanks to our Providore and her band of helpers. After the speeches, the 100th year birthday cake was cut jointly by Alex Givney and our very own 99 year old member, Phyllis Pledger.
Games of skill had been set up for those wishing to have a try, with some finding it harder than expected.
As always, there were a ton of helpers who set up the show, and then pulled it down at the end of the day. These people deserve huge recognition. Thank you to you all.
The special committee charged with bringing this celebration together is to be congratulated for the huge success of the day. Well done Wynnum for a fabulous celebration.
