Wynnum celebrates the Melbourne Cup in style

The race that stops the nation was reason enough to have a celebration.

Our clubhouse was beautified with table places for each member, then decorated with fresh flowers from our garden.

Luncheon was provided by the management committee, with donations of salads from several club members. Along with the chicken, the different salad flavours were a delight to the palate, followed by an amazing selection of sweets and cakes.

A customary sweep was done and the Form Guide was studied, and those with a history of "wins in the wet" were preferred. Secretary Aina again provided the pre-race entertainment with a Melbourne Cup Quiz, and the winning team included our President John, Dianna and Cheryl.

The race was shown on our big screen TV and everyone was eagerly attentive. After the race the funds from the sweep were handed out to the winners amid applause from all.

As the weather cleared and the sun tried desperately to come out, several teams of players hit the courts for a couple of games before closing up for the day.

It was a great day, enjoyed by all and an event to look forward to next year.
