Wynnum celebrates Gala Day winners, Phyllis Pledger at 100 and Queensland ISS success

Wynnum reports Renaissance Gala Day, Queensland State Team practice, Phyllis Pledger's 100th birthday, Wynnum Cup, Bendigo Cup and ISS success.

Wynnum celebrates Gala Day winners, Phyllis Pledger at 100 and Queensland ISS success

Wynnum's Renaissance Gala Day was held on Thursday 10 July in glorious weather. The event was sponsored by Renaissance Retirement Living, with 12 teams from Bribie to the Gold Coast. Winners were Barry Beattie and Alison Love, and runners up were Lisa Weightman and Deborah Gunner. Vice President Deirdre Giles made the presentations.

Wynnum hosted the Queensland GC State Team practice session on Sunday 13 July and wished the team well for the WCF Interstate Shield in New South Wales. The club also celebrated Phyllis Pledger's 100th birthday in the clubhouse, with messages from King Charles and Camilla, the Governor, the Prime Minister and others on display. Phyllis has served as President, Secretary and archivist.

The Wynnum Cup was held on 20 July. Block A winners were Peter and Judy De-Vene from Eildon, with Barry Beattie and Sue Anderson from Wynnum runners up. The Bendigo Cup on 31 August had a full complement of players. Division 1 winners were Bob Martin and Desley Bischoff (Eildon), with Gordon Giles (Wynnum) and Mary McMahon (Southport) runners up. Division 2 winners were Sidney Bates and Kerry Snow (Stephens), with Robert Kidd and Lorraine Hathaway (Eildon) runners up.

Wynnum congratulated the Queensland team on coming third overall in the Interstate Shield in Newcastle. The club is proud to have Gordon, Carol and team manager Deirdre among the team members.
