Winner Takes All draws players from far and wide

he Shawn & Kym Winner Takes All event was held on 19th & 20th October with a full complement of players. Some had come as far away as Ballina, and we thank them very much for coming to join this tournament. The turnout from players at other clubs was exceptional, indicating that the one and only prize of $1000 cash is worth travelling for.

It was a high/low handicap event, so it was interesting to see previous partners playing with somebody different. It was a great experience for those with higher handicaps, an opportunity to learn tactics and experience competing with top class players. Games were double banked, so our referees were kept very busy.

The winners, who only lost two games over the entire weekend, were Mary McMahon (Southport) and Chris Parker (BHPB) with 13 wins and 42 net hoops. A huge congratulatory cheer was given to them both, from all players who participated. Mary gave a delightful speech on their behalf and thanked those who worked so hard for this event.

We had bottles of wine and chocolates as raffle prizes, and interestingly, it was Eildon Club who won all our raffles, including a bottle of Bollinger.

We must acknowledge all those wonderful volunteers who always help to make our events so enjoyable, including the hoop setters, the referees, the kitchen staff, the score entries, the flag raiser, those setting the gazebo up/down, plus those setting up and pulling down the courts. All these people make competitions "work" and we thank them all sincerely. You are what makes us great!
