Windsor Shield draws players through wind and rain

t was another busy and often wet and windy weekend at Windsor Croquet Club.

The Windsor Shield is an annual event held in April over 2 days. Saturday saw players with a handicap up to 6, placed in 2 blocks to battle it out on the lawn in between sunshine and showers.

The winners of Block A were Gordon from Wynnum with runner up Geoff, also from Wynnum. Block B winners were Jill from Eildon and Joy from Toowoomba. Congratulations!

Sunday saw those with a handicap 7 and above compete in very heavy rain at times. That did not deter the enthusiasm. We also had a few first timers to competition. They report they had a wonderful time and will return.

Winners of Block C were Maggie from Bribie Island with runner up Mark from Windsor. Block D winners were Francesca from Windsor with runner up Annette, also from Windsor. Congratulations!

It takes many hands to make these events a success. Windsor is fortunate to have a band of willing and eager helpers. Thanks to those who coordinate the event, mow the lawns, set hoops, roll the dew off the lawns, tournament managers, referees, our committee, the bakers and those who help to clean up. Great teamwork.

Our next Golf Brooch is on 17 May. Come on down and watch the play. You will be most welcome.
