Tweed hosts the Gold Coast Association Tournament, and Queensland wins the Border Trophy

Murwillumbah "snow" fall. The beginning of the Cane Crushing Season in the Tweed Valley. That usually means a brief outburst of rain. Both of which occurred for the Single Men's Open Matches Div 1 and 2 of the Gold Coast Association Tournament.

A disappointing roll up for the efforts of Dave Luxmoore as Co-Ordinator. Robert Smilie from Coolangatta nobly stood up to make 4 players' days 1 and 2 despite holding a handicap not matching that Division. The Murwillumbah snow, fallout from the Cane Burning, started to rain down on the Sunday. On the Tuesday the rain arrived soaking the six players to the core. Hot soup was a welcome addition on that day in particular.

Winner Division 2 was Bill Habner (Nambour), runner up Gavin Clarke (Coolangatta). The runner up for Div 2 was very closely contested by three players and came down to final Net Game Count.

The Border Trophy took place shortly before the above tournament. A lovely day of excellent camaraderie at Burleigh Heads Palm Beach. Though the high jacking of the New South Wales Captain to play for Queensland could be construed as doubtful tactics by some. You've guessed it: Queensland won. Again, Dave Luxmoore put in the hard work for this day as organiser.

Tweed Heads members have enjoyed some excellent AC coaching at Coolangatta from Kathie Grant. John Finlay continues to coach Tweed Heads Pennants Teams. The club especially enjoys playing at home as all visitors comment on the excellence of the three courts. This is due to a top class Groundsman and the generous care given to the watering system and tree pruning by the Tweed Valley Council.

Today has been one of those special days when Club Members and Visitors from Southern Climes turned out in force. It would be so good to see more players turn out more often.
