Tweed celebrates Easter and a Gala Day with southern friends
Tweed Heads Croquet Club marks members' birthdays with an Easter Monday party, hosts a Gala Day for visitors from Ballina, Lismore and Coolangatta, and plays Golf and Association pennants.
No doubt all clubs battle some form of wildlife in their lawns whilst striving to be eco friendly and allergy friendly to players. Good courts are of foremost concern. It is the lifeblood of a club to enjoy a good game. Some clubs pay for the privilege, others are lucky to have keen and horticulture minded members who do the work.
Post Covid the club is picking up momentum following the blockade which made life on the border for New South Wales CAQ Club members pretty unbearable. Now the club does miss the Globe Trotters who are once again taking advantage of seeing the world. Definitely fewer players are turning out on a regular basis.
St. Patrick's Day was not on a play day for Tweed Heads so the club opted instead for an Easter/Birthday party on Easter Monday. Eleven members' birthdays were celebrated. A family visiting from Britain put on a good morning tea. Little Lucy, in the photo below, won the Easter Bonnet Prize.
Novelty games were played with quite a scramble to place a golf ball on a two dollar coin. Club mascot, Luna the cocker spaniel, also developed a nose for chocolate Easter Eggs and had to be restrained.
The club held a Gala Day on Croquet World Cup day and was delighted to host visitors from Ballina, Lismore and Coolangatta for play in Association, Ricochet and Golf Croquet. Morning tea, lunch and a Raffle were enjoyed. It was especially wonderful to share with southern friends again. Murwillumbah are struggling with dwindling membership and illness and could not find a driver in order to attend. So, if you are travelling, do pay Murwillumbah a visit and have a game with them.
The club is playing Golf Division 2 Pennants and doing nicely. Also teaming up with Murwillumbah to play as the Ospreys in Division 2 Association. Only one match has been played to date.
