Toombul reports a busy year of tournaments, coaching and grants
Toombul reports a busy year of tournaments, coaching and grants.
Toombul has had quite a busy year. We've held 5 or so tournaments, all very successful. The last tournament, for Toombul to host the Bronze Medal, is being held at the end of September.
One of our lovely members passed away a few months ago and we had a nice commemoration at the club for Julia. She had been a member for about 3 years. We've bought a defibrillator which we hopefully won't have to use.
We've had tyning done and that has improved the lawns. Court one needs a lot of work due to the tree roots, although it has vastly improved. We love those trees, but they cause havoc to the grass.
The Club GC matches are coming along nicely. Liz has given the club members coaching and that has improved their game. Most of them have only been playing for 2 and a bit years, so they are doing very well.
The GC Pennant team has also done very well; hopefully they will win it next year! They are all very enthusiastic. The A/C Pennant team had to use people from other clubs as we didn't have enough players. Cameron Unwin played for us a couple of times and Roy Machen played for us in August and what a treasure. He won his game by one hoop. Greg Bury also stood in, the month before, so thanks to those players who helped us so we didn't have to forfeit. Hopefully we will have our own team next year.
We've applied for a few grants, received funding from Sport & Recreation, so we'll be buying balls and have new GC clips.
