Three Wynnum players to represent Queensland, plus one more from Wynnum

hree players from Wynnum Croquet Club will travel to New South Wales in September to represent Queensland in upcoming premier interstate competitions.

Richard Pickvance will be the Queensland representative in the Australian Croquet Association's Golf Croquet Gold Medal event, to be held in Tempe, NSW, over three days from 5 to 7 September.

Richard achieved this honour by winning the Queensland ACA Bronze Medal in June, that event being restricted to 10 of the best players in Queensland with entries based on world rankings. Wynnum had two other players selected for the Bronze Medal event, Geoff Hull and Ron Schodel, with Richard just managing to secure his place through the withdrawal of 2 other players.

Richard, who has only been playing croquet for two years, will now compete against the other 5 state Bronze Medal winners for the ACA Gold and Silver Medals.

Meanwhile, Ron Schodel and Geoff Hull have been selected to play in the Queensland Golf Croquet representative team that will compete against the five other states for the Interstate Shield in the Hunter Valley on 12–16 September.

Ron is a very experienced player, having previously represented Queensland in the 2009 and 2010 teams. Although Geoff has only been playing for five years, he has competed strongly in many state and national events, including reaching the final of the 2017 Australian Singles Championships in Melbourne. And the Queensland team coach is Wynnum CC's President Liz Fleming.
