The weather gods were smiling for our Gala Day on Sunday 2 April 2023, sponsored by Go See Touring.

We had 26 players coming from six clubs: Burleigh Heads Palm Beach, Ipswich, McIlwraith, Pine Rivers, Twin Rivers, Windsor, and Wynnum. It was a pleasure to see so many smiling faces and everyone enjoying their croquet. A few players had to drop out on Saturday due to family reasons, so our block numbers were uneven.

The courts were looking good on the day after the late cut on Friday.

Players were divided into two blocks and had three games before the lunch break and three games in the afternoon. The winners of each block then progressed to the final.

The final was between the winners of Block A, Steve Scrimgeour (Burleigh Heads) and Viv Tidmarsh (Wynnum), and the winners of Block B, Graham Young (McIlwraith) with Pam Gunter (Wynnum). It was played in the fading light, with Steve and Viv taking the game 7-3. Runners-up Graham and Pam put up a great battle.

Second place in Block A went to Dot Davidson (Burleigh Heads) and Pat Woulahan (Wynnum).

Second place in Block B went to Andrew Cole (McIlwraith) and Annette Cooper (Windsor).

The presentation of prizes was made by Deirdre on behalf of Go See Touring to the winners and, as always, we thank Go See Touring for their sponsorship support.

Hosting this event was a team effort by Wynnum members, and thanks must go to all those who helped on the day, and also the caterers. Well done everyone, it was a great day.
