Southport's Lee Wentworth wins Qld Gateball Doubles again

nother wonderful result for Southport Croquet Club came in the Qld Gateball Doubles Championship held at Caloundra.
Twenty-four teams entered, so four blocks of six pairs of players were formed. Lee Wentworth, a very experienced player and leader in the Southport Gateball Team, combined with Kaelan Sweatman from the Moreton Bay Gateball Club. They 'stormed' through the heats undefeated, won the semi-final and then, in a very controlled game, won the final 21-6.
Congratulations to Lee. It is the third time he has won this Championship.
Southport's Julia Tai helps composite team win Gateball title
Our Southport Croquet Club sent two teams to the Caloundra Mallet Sports Club to participate in the QLD Gateball Teams Championship.
As well, another Southport player joined a team of interstate players who play at Kew and Warnambool, both clubs in Victoria, and Woodville Club in South Australia, along with Peter Wood from Canberra and our player from Southport, Julia Tai.
This composite team, playing together for the first time, won 9 of their games to claim first place. In the photo you can see the magnificent Lola Whyte Trophy, with Julia second from the right. Congratulations, Julia.
