## eorge Hartnett Metropolitan Challenge
Our first major GC tournament of the year, the "George Hartnett Metropolitan Challenge" GC Level Play Doubles, was held on Sunday 2nd February 2025 and was a great success. We had a full complement of players from Bribie Island, Burleigh Heads Palm Beach, Caloundra, Eildon, Ipswich, Stephens, Southport, Toowoomba, Windsor and Twin Rivers, as well as a number of players from our own club.
We very much appreciate the generous sponsorship of George Hartnett Metropolitan Funerals Wynnum, and we were fortunate to have Manager, Gavin Stoneley, with us to present the trophies.
There were some fiercely contested games with close results. Both blocks were very tight affairs, with the first and second placegetters depending on their results in the final game to progress through to the Finals.
- Block A was won by Rosemary Newsham & Alison Oatway (Southport). - Second place in Block A went to Dennis Green & Jenee Molyneux (Bribie Island). - Block B was won by Richard Pickvance (Twin Rivers) & Graham McLean (Windsor). - Second place in Block B went to Brian Tidmarsh & Viv Tidmarsh (Wynnum).
The Challenge final was an interesting exhibition of different styles of play and was won by Rosemary Newsham & Alison Oatway on the last hoop from Richard Pickvance & Graham McLean.
The battle for third place was between Dennis Green & Jenee Molyneux and Brian Tidmarsh & Viv Tidmarsh, with Brian & Viv coming out on top to take 3rd place.
As with any tournament, a team effort is required to achieve a good result, and our team again did us proud. From hoop-setting and court preparation, right through to games organisation and management, including refereeing, cleaning and catering, we had a lot of willing volunteers. Many thanks to everyone.
Congratulations to all the players for taking part in this tournament to help the club celebrate our 100 years in operation.
