Remembering Remembrance Day in Yeronga Memorial Park

n a very warm November morning, the Stephens Sub-branch RSL co-ordinated a Remembrance Day service at the Cenotaph adjacent to our croquet club. Club President Val Layne laid a wreath.

The club provided a much appreciated water station for the large crowd.

Prior to the service, there was a walk along the Honour Avenue, which names each of the 97 of the Shire's young men who did not return from WW1 on a tree. At the service, 97 local Yeronga State School and Junction Park State School children filled 97 empty chairs to symbolise lives not lived to the full.

On a more joyful note, the music was provided by Yeronga State High School, and Joan Ross brought along a photo of her great uncle on his return to Bundaberg.

The Yeronga Community Centre co-ordinated a handmade poppy project.
